Emla numbs the skin so a needle does not have to hurt. It is a topical anaesthetic cream applied before vaccinations, blood tests and minor skin procedures, and it suits adults, children and babies alike.

This is the multi-tube pack, useful where several procedures are expected.

Ingredients

Lignocaine 2.5% and prilocaine 2.5%.

Directions

For use as a local anaesthetic, apply a thick layer of cream to the skin under an occlusive dressing.

Leg ulcer debridement: apply a thick layer of cream, up to a total of 10 g, to the leg ulcer or ulcers. Cover with an occlusive dressing and leave for 30 to 60 minutes. Start cleansing without delay once the cream is removed.

Warnings

  • Do not use if you have congenital or idiopathic methaemoglobinaemia, or a known hypersensitivity to local anaesthetics.
  • Do not apply to open wounds other than leg ulcers.
  • Use with particular care near the eyes, as the cream causes corneal irritation.
  • The safety of Emla Cream during pregnancy and breastfeeding has not been established.
  • Keep out of reach of children.
