Emla Cream Tube 30g

Emla numbs the skin so a needle does not have to hurt. It is a topical anaesthetic cream applied before vaccinations, blood tests and minor skin procedures, and it suits adults, children and babies alike.

This is the 30 g tube, for repeat use or for larger areas.

Ingredients

Lignocaine 25 mg/g and prilocaine 25 mg/g.

Directions

For most procedures, apply the cream at least one hour before the procedure starts.

1. Make sure the skin is clean and dry. Squeeze out enough cream onto the site of the procedure. Do not spread the cream out. Refer to the pack insert for dose instructions.
2. Take one of the enclosed occlusive dressings and remove the centre cut-out piece. Another occlusive dressing can be used if there is none in the pack — plastic film such as cling wrap should be stuck down with adhesive tape. Do not use plastic film around the face.
3. Peel the paper liner from the paper-framed dressing and cover the cream so there is a thick layer underneath. Smooth the dressing edges down carefully to avoid leakage. Remove the paper frame and mark the time of application on the dressing.
4. Remove the dressing immediately before the procedure, wipe off the cream and clean the area.

Warnings

• Do not use if you have congenital or idiopathic methaemoglobinaemia, or a known hypersensitivity to local anaesthetics.
• Do not apply to open wounds other than leg ulcers.
• Use with particular care near the eyes, as the cream causes corneal irritation.
• The safety of Emla Cream during pregnancy and breastfeeding has not been established.
• Keep out of reach of children.
