EPIPEN Adult

EpiPen is an adrenaline auto-injector for the immediate emergency treatment of anaphylaxis — a severe allergic reaction. It is not a substitute for emergency medical care: after using it, call 111 for an ambulance.

Your doctor or pharmacist will explain what a severe allergic reaction looks like, so that you know when EpiPen must be used.

Used for

• Immediate emergency treatment of severe allergic reactions (anaphylaxis)
• For reactions caused by food, medicines, stinging insects, insect bites, latex or other allergens, including ones that have not been identified
• For adults and children weighing 15 kg or more

Ingredients

Adrenaline 300 micrograms per 0.3 mL dose.

Directions

1. Remove the blue safety cap by pulling it straight up. Do not bend or twist it.
2. Hold the orange tip about 5 cm away from the outer mid-thigh at a right angle, then push the auto-injector firmly into the thigh until you hear or feel a click.
3. Hold it firmly in place for approximately 3 seconds, then remove it.
4. Always seek medical attention afterwards — call 111 for an ambulance.

Check the contents of the glass cartridge periodically to make sure the solution is clear and colourless, and check the expiry date on the auto-injector.

Warnings

• EpiPen is not a substitute for emergency medical or hospital care. Call 111 immediately after using it.
• Auto-injectors should ONLY be injected into the side of the thigh. Do NOT inject into the buttocks.
• Never inject into a vein, or into the hands, feet, fingers or toes.
• Accidental injection into the hands or feet may cut off blood flow to the area and should be avoided. If this happens, seek emergency treatment.
• Do not use this medicine if you are allergic to any of its ingredients. Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you have had such an allergy before.
• Use with caution during pregnancy, and only if the expected benefit to the mother is greater than any possible risk to the baby. Seek medical advice from your doctor.
• There is no information available on the safety of this medicine during breastfeeding. Seek medical advice from your doctor.
