Ingredients
Sodium chloride 9 mg/mL.
Directions
Saline drops:
- Lay your baby on their back and carefully tilt the head back.
- Hold the bottle upside down and gently squeeze 1 to 3 drops into each nostril.
- Hold your baby in this position for 1 to 2 minutes so the saline can thin the mucus.
- Gently wipe the mucus away, or use the nasal aspirator to clear it.
Use before sleep and at least 15 minutes before a feed, so your baby can breathe and suck at the same time. Because it is non-medicated it can be used as often as necessary.
Nasal aspirator:
- Hold the aspirator away from your baby’s nose and squeeze the air out of the bulb first.
- Place the tip gently at the entrance of the nostril, pointing towards the back of the nose.
- Hold the other nostril closed to create a vacuum.
- Release your grip gradually so the suction draws the mucus into the bulb.
- Squeeze the mucus onto a tissue, then repeat on the other side.
- Wash the aspirator in warm soapy water, rinse and air dry after use.
The nasal aspirator is a rubber bulb syringe with a soft tip. It gently suctions the mucus loosened by the saline from your baby’s nose, doing the same job as blowing a nose, and avoids the harshness of tissues.
