Proctosedyl Ointment combines hydrocortisone, a steroid, with cinchocaine hydrochloride, a local anaesthetic. Together they reduce swelling, numb pain and relieve itching.

Ingredients

Active ingredients: hydrocortisone 5 mg/g and cinchocaine hydrochloride 5 mg/g.

Also contains: liquid paraffin, white soft paraffin and wool fat.

Directions

For best results, apply after a bowel motion. Wash and dry the anal area, and wash your hands well before and after use.

External haemorrhoids: apply a small amount of ointment to a finger and gently apply to the affected area.

Internal application: attach the nozzle to the tube, insert gently into the anus and squeeze the tube from the lower end while withdrawing it. Wash the nozzle with warm soapy water after use.

Apply to the affected area up to 3 times daily. For rectal use only.

Warnings

  • Do not use for more than 7 days unless a doctor has told you to.
  • Do not use if you have had an allergic reaction to hydrocortisone or cinchocaine hydrochloride, or to any of the other ingredients.
  • Do not use when infections affecting the anus or surrounding area are present, such as herpes.
  • Do not use if you have tuberculosis. Some diseases can be made worse by using Proctosedyl.
  • Do not give to children 12 years of age and under.
