Viraban is for the treatment and prevention of cold sores. It contains the antiviral agent acyclovir, which prevents the cold sore virus from replicating.

Ingredients

Acyclovir 5% w/w.

Directions

Apply a thin layer of Viraban to the affected area five times daily, at approximately four-hourly intervals, omitting the night-time applications. Continue for five days.

Start treatment as soon as the first symptoms of a cold sore appear, such as burning, tingling or itching. If symptoms persist after 10 days, see your doctor.

Warnings

• For external use only.
• Avoid contact with the eyes.
• Do not use on mucous membranes, inside the mouth or in the vagina.
• Genital herpes requires urgent medical attention.
• Viraban can occasionally cause mild pain, drying, flaking, burning or stinging where it is applied. Less commonly itching, and rarely skin rash, may occur.
